St. Francis de Sales Cathedral School will have a swim team comprised of fifth, sixth, and seventh graders this year. Coach Brent Labat and Coach Taylor Rodrigue from Crawfish Aquatics will be our school team coaches. I am in need of a parent to assist with swim team this year and I will serve as faculty moderator.
*Swim team members must be familiar with all 4 strokes (free, back, breast and butterfly). Swimmers must be able to swim a distance of 50-100 yards per event. This program is not designed to be a swim lesson. Coaches will teach/model stroke technique, breathing, and building endurance for individual improvement. Team building and relay swimming will take place as well.
Practice Days and Times: Swim practices will be held from 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at the Ayo Pool on the NSU campus. My hope is that we will enter the water beginning on Monday, September 11, 2017. Once I have an email list set up, I will email swim information to parents directly. Weather is always an issue at this time of year. The coaches and I normally will not cancel a practice before the school day ends unless the forecast is for extreme precipitation. The general rule is to show up at the pool and we base the decision on the conditions at the pool-not necessarily our individual homes. It is very important that when you arrive at the pool you bring your bag, water, and shoes to the designated deck area and you remain seated and away from the pool until you are given instructions from the coaches to enter the water. Students are to make sure all of their belongings (water bottles, swim caps, goggles, shoes, towels, and bags) are picked up and taken home after practice. Please be prompt in picking swimmers up at 6:00 pm.
Fees: The fee to participate in Swim Team is $50.00 per swimmer. A $5.00 per meet fee will be collected from each swimmer prior to meets. Optional team swim caps will be available for an additional fee. Team caps are not required.
Swim Gear: A one-piece swim suit for the girls and a jammer style suit for the boys should be worn for both practices and meets. Goggles, bottled water, and a swim cap of your choice will be needed for practices and meets.
Swim Meets: *The Crawfish Aquatics Middle School Swim Program is a brand new program to our area. CA has been facilitating a similar program in Baton Rouge for many years. The meet schedule is not finalized at this time. As soon as meet dates are determined, that information will be sent to you.
We do expect swimmers to show up for the meets once they commit to being in attendance. Parent volunteers will be needed at the swim meets to time the races. More details regarding meets will be given once meet dates are set. We are hoping to participate in 3-4 meets throughout the season.
