The librarian facilitates the Accelerated Reader Program for grades 1 through 7. Accelerated Reader (AR) is a computerized progress-monitoring assessment and personalized practice tool that provides valuable feedback on comprehension of books students have read. The goal of the Accelerated Reader program at MICS is to:
1. develop lifelong learners who enjoy reading
2. improve reading comprehension skills through reading practice
Reading fosters personal growth so encouraging students to focus on their strengths in order to improve reading comprehension and create an enjoyable reading experience is the key. For the school year, two school-wide reading goals will be implemented:
1. 35 minutes of daily independent reading practice
2. all students average 88% or higher on Reading Practice quizzes
Meeting these goals should have a significant impact on reading growth. To help us achieve our goal, we ask that parents encourage their children to read at home. You can help them stay on track by recording their minutes on a monthly calendar.
